Jacqueline’s Russell’s youngest child was eight months-old when she was diagnosed with gestational breast cancer.
“I have five children, so life was already full and busy. The diagnosis completely blindsided us.
“It turned our whole world upside down – it was an incredibly emotional and overwhelming time for our family,” says Jacqueline.
Over the subsequent year, Jacqueline underwent chemo, a mastectomy, radiation and hormone therapy.
During this time, Sleapy’s Foundation provided immediate practical support with electricity bills and fuel vouchers.
“That help took a huge amount of pressure off and made such a difference for our family. It allowed us to focus on my treatment and our children, instead of worrying about how we were going to make ends meet. Their support came at a time when we truly needed it most, and I’ll always be grateful for that kindness,” says Jacqueline.
Today, Jacqueline is still going through treatment and Sleapy’s continues to provide invaluable help.
“Robyn has been absolutely wonderful. She’s so kind and approachable, and there’s never any judgment. We reach out when we need help, and she always responds with understanding and compassion. Having that kind of support behind us has been an incredible comfort during this time,” says Jacqueline.
In future, Jacqueline says she would love to volunteer and support Sleapy’s in any way she can.
“I did the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing and had no mutations and there’s no family history. I’m quite young so spreading awareness really matters.
“My family and I are so incredibly grateful for Sleapy’s kindness and support during such a vulnerable time. We are so thankful for the hard work and love that they pour into helping families through their toughest moments. It truly means the world to us,” she says.
