Bags of Hope

Sleapy’s Foundation has been providing Bags of Hope to Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in Newcastle since 2024. These bags are provided to families who may find themselves unexpectedly at RMH for an extended period. They have proved to be a valuable resource and a reminder that even in dark times, there is a community there ready to support them.

The Inspiration Behind the Bags of Hope
Sam Hope 2016 – 2020

Sammy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at 2.5 years old on July 9, 2018. He and his mother, Natalie, were flown to Newcastle John Hunter Children’s Hospital late that night, accompanied by Sam’s 7-month-old sister. They lived in the hospital room for a few days before moving to a unit at Ronald McDonald House. They arrived with very few belongings, not expecting to stay at RMH for such an extended period. Sleapy’s Foundation swung into action to support Sam and his family during this most difficult time.

We honour Sammy’s memory by offering these personal essentials to help make coping that little bit easier.

Contents of Bags of Hope

The contents of the bags have evolved over time, based on the needs and feedback of the families & recipients. This year the contents will include:

• $150 IGA Merewether voucher
• Fuel or travel vouchers
• 1 week of meal services
• Essential toiletries
• Sleapy’s Foundation notebook & pen for journaling or note-keeping
• Chocolate
• Tote bag
