Looking towards 2022

2022 is shaping up to be a year of growth for Sleapy’s Foundation.

We have new events planned, and a new board member Ross Holding. Ross is a business advisor. After the slow burn of the last 2 years, we are ready to expand our horizons and take our charity to the next level of brand recognition and community engagement.

This will allow us to assist many more individuals and families in the community to tackle cancer, adversity, poverty, sickness, helplessness, distress or social isolation by providing help by means of immediate cash relief or experiences, either physically or emotionally that aid in the quality of life in children & adults, that give hope and strength for a better future or outcome of life.

We are looking to expand our network of volunteers, not just for events but to also be a part of our planning team and sub committees for implementing our initiatives for growth. If you think you have the necessary skills and drive and have the right attitude to contribute in a positive way, please contact @[email protected] or call Robynn 0423 956756.

What does the first half of 2022 look like?

February 2022

On 4th February 2022 we are hosting our inaugural Golf Day at Merewether Gold Course. This was initiated by Andrew Kliousis and Craig Millar who are wonderful lifelong supporters of Sleapy’s Day and Sleapy’s Foundation. This has already been a great success and we have exceeded our goal of 18 hole sponsors. In further great news, Burton Automotive has donated a car for a lucky golfer to try and win with a “Hole in One”. We give thanks to Kim Burton & Burton Automotives for their generous support and sponsorship.

March 2022

Saturday 12th March 2022 sees us hold our first ever International Women’s Day High Tea hosted by NBN/s newsreader Natasha Beyersdorf. We will be drawing speakers from our own Sleapy’s Foundation community with the theme “Everyone has an interesting story”. This event will be hosted at our headquarters, Souths Leagues Club at Merewether.

We look forward to a fun-filled afternoon of great food, great laughs and being inspired by some stories of courage & resilience during tough times and adversity.

This event is not exclusive to women and men are encouraged and most welcome to attend.

April 2022

Saturday 9th April is our major event for the year! Sleapy’s Day at Townson Oval. This is the rescheduled date for the postponed 2021 Sleapy’s Day.

There is always such excitement and anticipation surrounding this great local community day for a great cause and at the same time supporting a proud local Newcastle Rugby League Footy Team – South Newcastle Rugby League Club which is also a foundation Club of the Newcastle Rugby League.

This year we have partnered with Hunter Melanoma Foundation which will be providing free skin checks for our participants and anyone in the local community. This follows on from their successful “Spot Check Campaign” in the summers of 2020 & 2021.

This year will be bigger and better than ever!!!!

June & July

The winter months will see us looking at hosting another FIRST for Sleapy’s Foundation – a Race Day at the beautiful Broadmeadow Racetrack.

Date, Time, Format and Function Room to be confirmed.

In other news

In 2022 we will continue the support of Ronald McDonald House as well as partnering with the team of wonderful clinicians based at the John Hunter paediatric department to offer support ad assistance for sick kids & their families.

Also, in the first quarter 2022 there will be a major announcement of a Community Hub that we are so proud to be invited to collaborate with. This will be EPIC and we can wait to share the news in the new year.
